LABDANUM OIL

Labdanum Essential Oil is derived from the plant called Rock Rose. Labdanum is used primarily as a perfume oil to ground and balance competing scents.

Often confused with Rock Rose, the flower essence (Helianthemumcanadense), which is another plant and oil. Labdanum oil is made from the crude gum of the plant. The crude gum is prepared by boiling the dried leaves and twigs in water. The gum is then skimmed off the surface of the water and dried. An essential oil can be distilled from this crude gum and is the one most prized for its ambergris qualities (and is often used as synthetic ambergris).

This is used as a perfume fixative. The rock rose plant is botanically known as Cistuslandaniferus. This plant is native to the Mediterranean mountainous regions and is produced in Spain, France, Morocco, Greece, Cyprus.? This oil has been used in perfumes for hundreds of years because of its excellent fixative powers and its ambergris-like qualities. As a gum it has medicinal properties and is used for catarrh, diarrhea, and dysentery and externally in plasters.

The oil reflects yellow color and is used as a fixative to hold fragrance.
