Traditional Deg and Bhapka Attar Distillation - Meena Perfumery The Art of Attar Making: Traditional Deg and Bhapka Distillation at Meena Perfumery
Welcome to the timeless world of Meena Perfumery, Kannauj — the heart of India’s ancient fragrance heritage. In an age of machines and mass production, we stay rooted in tradition, embracing an age-old art that has traveled across centuries: the Deg and Bhapka distillation method, used in crafting pure, natural Indian attars. At Meena Perfumery, this isn’t just a process. It’s a legacy.
What is the Deg and Bhapka Method
This traditional hydro-distillation technique dates back over a thousand years and is still used in the perfume capital of India — Kannauj. It involves:
- Deg: A large copper cauldron where raw botanical ingredients like rose, vetiver, jasmine, or sandalwood are placed.
- Bhapka: A receiver flask where the aromatic vapors condense and collect.
