A small evergreen tree, the aromatic Amyris is native to Asia, Haiti and other Caribbean islands. Patience is required, as this tree that grows to be 2-4 meters needs approximately 30 years before it produces its sweet essential oil. The scientific name of Amyris is Amyris balsamiferous.

Amyris, also known as 'West Indian Sandalwood,' is a great choice for use as base note fixative oil. Commonly found in soaps and other 'Sandalwood' products in place of 'true' Sandalwood, Amyris supports vibrant physical health by helping to remove physical and etheric toxins that congest and distort the body. An alternative choice in place of the endangered 'true' Sandalwood, Amyris is a healthy, inexpensive and sustainable substitute in many aromatherapy applications.

Amyris Essential Oil is steam distilled from the wood and twigs of the Amyris or Candlewood tree. Our Meena Perfumery’s Amyris Essential Oil offers a sweet-woody, balsamic aroma with good fixative value Amyris wood is used to make furniture. It is a cheap substitute for sandalwood and is also used to adulterate sandalwood. It is used as a fixative in soaps and fragrances, and in liqueurs.

Amyris oil have antichloristic, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, balsamic, expectorant, fixative, hypertensive and sedative nature. It is used for lymphatic and veinous decongestant, to support the heart (tonic) and to treat hemorrhoids. It also helps to deepen the breath and loosens tight. Meena Perfumery’s Amyris essential oil is distilled from the wood of the tropical evergreen Amyris tree found throughout the world. It often referred to as West Indian Sandalwood, though does not possess the same depth and character as true Sandalwood, and is often used as a substitute for Sandalwood when a less expensive alternative is required. Amyris relaxes and calms the mind, helping to alleviate stress and anxiety. It is also said uplift the mood and has an aphrodisiac-like effect when used in small amounts in a blend.

This steam distilled essential oil is commonly referred to as West Indian Sandalwood oil; however, it is not a true replacement for Sandalwood essential oil. The oil is extracted from wood chips of the tree. Its aroma is sweet and smoky and is used as a scent fixative in perfumes and in soaps. You will find among its properties when used in aromatherapy: Antiseptic, balsamic, sedative, calming and an aid to stress relief. Many believe that it has sedative properties and assists during meditation.

** Do not apply essential oils neat (undiluted) to the skin. The recommended Aromatherapy standard dilution is 1 - 3%, though certain oils may be used in higher or lower dilutions. Consider each case individually.

** If you have sensitive skin or are prone to allergies test oil blends on a small area of the inner arm prior to general use. 

** Keep oils out of reach of children and pets.

** Never allow essential oils to enter the eyes.

** If you are pregnant, consult a qualified aroma therapist for suitability and safety of specific oils. Many oils should not be used during pregnancy, some only need to be avoided for the first 3 - 4 months, others may be helpful during labour, but may pose a risk during the months before.

** If you suffer from serious medical conditions such as (but not exclusively) high blood pressure, cancer, thrombosis, varicose veins or epilepsy, consult a qualified aroma therapist for professional advice on recommended oils and dosages.
